The fire department was called today to address an issue with smoke in a high school classroom. The source turned out to be a wiring issue in an air conditioning unit. There were no injuries reported. The students and staff are commended on their actions during the situation.
Here is a message from Mr. Zoph about an event at Grandview tomorrow, April 1. Tomorrow April 1st, (this is not an April Fools Joke) the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department SWAT team and the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department Student Resource Officers from across the county will be on the Grandview campus from 3:30pm till approximately 7:30pm doing Active Shooter Training. Many school personnel will be participating in the training along with the Sheriff’s Department Officers. I’m sending this out so everyone can remain calm when they see the campus full of police cars and officers doing mock trainings all over the campus. There is NO EMERGENCY and the Grandview campus will probably be the safest place in Jefferson County for around 4 hours. Again this is just to let the community know there will be a Jefferson County Sheriffs department Active Shooter Training on campus tomorrow! Matt Zoph (Superintendent) https://5il.co/r52i
Mr. Zoph just released a message concerning District COVID procedures in light of last night's Health Department meeting. The link leads you to a pdf of the message. https://5il.co/qyzt
One year ago today, the governor of Missouri shut down all public schools in the state due to COVID-19. Over the past year the Grandview school district was able to open up on our normal schedule and bring the kids and staff back. We've constantly tried to create an environment as close to normal as we can. I can't thank the staff enough for the hard work recreating what education looks like this year. Last week the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in De Soto vaccinated all of our staff with qualifying underlying conditions. Today Parkland Health Mart of Desloge vaccinated all of our remaining staff that wanted to be vaccinated. Parkland also vaccinated approximately 100 community members beyond just the Grandview Staff. We cannot thank these two pharmacies enough! If you are looking for a Pharmacy, I cannot recommend nicer people than those that work at Medicine Shoppe in De Soto and Parkland Health Mart in Desloge. To me these vaccines are another step toward normalcy, some people need the vaccine to feel safe coming to work and some do not, to me either is fine, as long as they feel safe. I know it has been a long year and everyone is tired, but seeing everyone come together gives me hope that brighter days are around the corner. A special thanks to Nurse Kadie, Nurse Jessica, the admin team and everyone who has stepped up to get us to this point, you are all appreciated! Grandview Strong! Matt Zoph Superintendent

The main two takeaways of the new guidelines are: - Quarantine can end after Day 10 without testing and if no symptoms have been reported during daily monitoring. - When diagnostic testing resources are sufficient and available, then quarantine can end after Day 7 if a diagnostic specimen tests negative and if no symptoms were reported during daily monitoring. Below is a link to the press release from the JCHD which includes a link to the Center for Disease Control's new guidelines as well. https://5il.co/niy0

Eagle Nation: On Tuesday, November 3, Grandview will, as usual, help fill a need in the community and serve as an election voting site. Due to the projected high voter turnout and the subsequent increased risk of potential viral exposure, we will not have classes on campus. We will instead be having an Alternative Method of Instruction day. The state of Missouri allows schools to have five days where Alternative Methods of Instruction (AMI) are utilized without having to make them up on the school calendar. On November 3, and all AMI days in the future, all students will be in attendance through our virtual program and will follow the educational plan set forth by their teachers to the fullest extent possible. More information and responses to questions will be available through your individual building principals.

We are happy to announce that we will be able to provide free breakfast and lunch to ALL students no matter their family’s income. The program was approved to run through December 31st or until funding runs out (whichever comes first). The meals will be available every day that school is in session for in-person learners and for pick-up for remote learners on Tuesday or the 1st day of the week school is in session. This will be effective immediately. Remote learners will need to fill out the Google Form on the school website to be eligible. The form needs to be filled out the Friday prior to the Tuesday pick-up. A week's worth of meals will be provided on Tuesday’s pick up. Pick up will be at the end of the Middle School building closest to the high school at the rear of the new Middle School Cafeteria between 2pm and 4pm. Parents still need to fill out a free and reduced meal from. This is important because on January 2, 2021, students that do not have an approved free or reduced meal application on file will have to start paying full price for their lunches. As the county moves to the “Red” classification, it does not mean an immediate closure of the school. Our current plan of using on campus and virtual instruction meets the health department’s recommendations for schools if there were to be a countywide “Red” designation. We have had frequent conversations with the health department, and our plan is to use the processes and procedures we have in place in regards to social distancing, physical barriers, face coverings, and contact tracing to remain open. With this being said, we will continue to monitor COVID cases in the district and in the county to see how they are directly impacting the district. As information and guidance changes, we will adjust our plan.

Update: March 23, 2020 4:00pm Grandview Community, I want to reach out to you and give you an important update on the COVID-19 situation and how it impacts our district. As you know, the Grandview staff is working diligently and remains committed to providing a learning environment that is focused on academic excellence in a safe environment while still working to meet the social and emotional needs of our students. With that in mind, we continue to adjust our plan as the COVID-19 crisis evolves. Following the announcement of stay-at-home regulations for March 24, 2020 - April 23, 2020, from the Jefferson County Health Department and Jefferson County Executive’s Office, and in collaboration with other area school districts, Grandview will be extending our school closure through Friday, April 24th, with a hopeful return date of Monday, April 27, 2020. As April 27th approaches, we will re-evaluate and determine if we will be able to resume school on that date. In addition to extending the school closure through Monday, April 27th, we will also be extending the cancelation of all school activities. We will also be keeping the campus closed to outside groups including all fields and gymnasiums. The track will remain open for walking but please practice social distancing. The Grandview Meals delivery will continue to provide meals to anyone under 18 years old. The form is still available on the school website. This action is being taken in an attempt to minimize health and safety risks in the Grandview School District community. Throughout the extended school closure, all district offices, and school buildings will be closed unless posted, and all district events, practices, and competitions that have been scheduled within and out of the district during this timeframe will be considered canceled until further notice. Communications will be forthcoming concerning academics, including educational packet pick up and drop off. Please take care of yourself, your family, and those around you and I encourage you to continue to adhere to the preventative measures as recommended by public health officials. Grandview is an amazing community, we will get through this together. Please be the calm! Respectfully, Matt Zoph Superintendent
Grandview Community I was going to send this letter as a district email, but I feel it is important to share this communication with the Grandview community. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Grandview School Board of Education would thank all of the district’s administration, faculty, and staff for their aggressive reaction to the changes needed to continue educating our students, as well as look out for the well-being of our students during this very fluid situation. Mr. Zoph and the administration team started discussing how to prepare for this situation the week before the county made the recommendation to close county schools. When the county made the recommendation this Sunday to close schools, within an hour of the county’s decision Mr. Zoph and his team were at the school finalizing their plan, and within two hours of the county meeting Mr. Zoph and his administration provided that plan to the Board of Education in an emergency board meeting. In last nights regular scheduled board meeting it was very apparent that the faculty and staff put in an incredible amount of work to carry out the plan put in place by the administration. As a board, we would like to tell everyone at the Grandview District how much we appreciate this planning and effort!!!!!! Great job on providing the educational packets for the students, student support, daily interaction through social media, and working together to provide meals for the children of our community. It was also reported to the board in last nights meeting that the students have embraced the remote learning plan put in place by the district, and did a great job of transitioning the last day on campus. Thank you to the Grandview students for continuing to do the all the things that make our district great, and thank you to all of the parents and community members that have continued to support these students and the district! It doesn’t go unnoticed and it is greatly appreciated. Lastly, I want to thank the other members of the Grandview School Board. Being a member of the Board of Education is one of the most challenging things I have ever done, and I can’t thank the other board members enough for all of the hard work they put into continuously trying to improve our district. Grandview R2 District, as well as all districts, are in unchartered territory moving forward but I am confident in our board and the decisions that will be made moving forward. Thank you, Bob Gearhart Grandview R2 Board President #EAGLESTRONG

Remember the Grandview R-II School Campus is closed until April 6th at the earliest. No groups, teams, or organizations are to use the campus at any time during this closure. The welfare of our community is, as always, our top priority. In order help with the nutritional needs of Eagle Nation the Grandview School district is planning on having a food distribution service using our school buses for ALL students during the school cancellation due to the virus outbreak. Starting Wednesday, we will have buses driving their afternoon routes delivering dinner and the following mornings breakfast to all that sign up. The meals will be at no charge to the student and a parent, teenager or older child will need to meet the bus at the students’ regular bus stop around their normal afternoon stop time to receive the meals. Remember this a fluid circumstance and there is no precedent to determine how to proceed from this point. As a result, times may change as we have more students start to participate in this program. We will also deliver meals to the Richwoods school campus daily at 3:00 pm and the Londell school district is working on scheduling issues as well. To sign up for this program there is a form on the district’s Facebook page as well as the district home page at www.grandviewr2.org. If you want to start your deliveries on Wednesday please sign up by noon tomorrow. For more information about the food delivery program call the Grandview Bus Garage at 636 944 3941 and choose extension 2. Be safe, wash your hands, and have a great day.

Bus Route Changes: Wednesday October 23rd we sent home letters with students explaining upcoming bus route changes. The reason for these changes is a shortage of bus drivers, county and statewide. On a daily basis, we are working to figure out how we are going to get students from school to home and from school to after school trips. Condensing a route is not a decision we take lightly and we know this change will be frustrating for many. This is a decision we did not want to make, it is a necessary change. Even with the changes, all full size bus routes will continue to be under an hour. I would like to thank everyone in advance as we make this transition, and I encourage you to call the transportation department if you have any questions about your route. (636) 944-3941 Opt. 2. The new routes will be posted on the school website. We will be sending an all call tonight and a reminder all call the night before the change, November 4th. Thank You for Your Understanding, Matt Zoph Superintendent
